2013 saw a major change to the Constitution of Midlands
Hockey to include Community Sport. This paved the way for Midlands Hockey to
support the delivery of all hockey opportunities to the more than 9,500 hockey
players within the region.
Today, in the community sphere, Midlands Hockey is focused
on partnering with its five member associations to deliver a well-planned and
innovative community programme focused on growing hockey in what is already New
Zealand’s largest hockey region. This
includes developing and delivering programmes for the five year olds who are experiencing
organised sport for the first time, right through to the senior and masters
players who are often returning to the sport for the social and physical
benefits that organised sport provides. We’re
confident that we’re reaching all hockey lovers, be they players, coaches,
officials or volunteers.
Our Operations and Development Manager, Nicky Smith, is responsible for the development and implementation of Midlands Hockey's Community Hockey Programme.
